Online Campaign Proves to be a Major Success
The Annual Fund’s 36-hour online fundraising campaign, the first of its kind for the university, exceeded expectations, generating more than $80,000 in donations to a wide variety of programs. People from throughout the campus community, including students, participated.
“We were really confident in the generosity of the campus community, and that confidence was well founded,” says Dolores Ybarra, director of the Annual Fund. “Every gift made a difference, and for that we say, 'Thank you.'”
The goal of the “Build the Future” campaign was to raise $75,000 in 36 hours, starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday. By Wednesday at 9 p.m., more than 300 people had gone to the website and donated to virtually any area of their choosing. Programs in every college benefited, as did scholarship funds, clubs and the Rose Float program. Some donors requested that their gift go to the “area of greatest need.”
Four donors who pledged to match gifts of $75 up to $1,000, played a big role in the campaign, Ybarra says.
“They gave us the boost we needed, and their leadership no doubt inspired others to join in.”
The campus community could follow the campaign on a Facebook page created for the event, as well as on the university’s Facebook page. Both featured photos of students holding signs thanking supporters.
Ybarra says the campaign’s success lays the groundwork for future online efforts, but for now she and the staff at the Annual Fund are going to enjoy the moment.
“The affection that our students, faculty, staff, alumni and administrators have for our university is humbling.”
