President's Video Update for Feb. 11

In his weekly video message, President Ortiz talks about recent efforts to lobby legislators in Sacramento and government officials in Washington D.C. to support funding for Cal Poly Pomona.

Although voters passed Proposition 30 last fall and the governor’s budget proposal is an improvement over previous years, higher education in California is still recovering from years of deep cuts. President Ortiz and Director of Governmental Affairs Doug Glaeser met with congressional representatives, officials at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Department of Defense, and the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.

On Jan. 29, Cal Poly Pomona joined seven other CSU campuses for Lobby Day in Sacramento. Officials spent the day meeting with legislators to educate them about the CSU’s hospitality programs and the industry’s need for career-ready graduates.

Other topics in the president’s message include Homecoming Week, which begins today and continues through Saturday with an exciting schedule of activities.

In addition, “Star Trek” actor George Takei will speak about “Social Justice in a Digital World” at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 19 at the Bronco Student Center.
