Watch the 2013 Rose Float Video
Go behind the scenes and watch how students built the award-winning "Tuxedo Air" float for the 2013 Rose Parade.
The Cal Poly Universities' float depicts a group of penguins learning how to fly -- with a little assistance and instruction at a flight school. The float won the Bob Hope Humor Trophy, which recognizes the most comical and amusing entry.
The 2013 parade marked the 65th consecutive year that the Cal Poly Universities had a float in the event. The Bob Hope trophy was 51st award the Pomona and San Luis Obispo campuses have earned.
The float is one of the few self-built entries in the parade and the only one designed and built entirely by students. Almost all the flowers the students used to decorate the float were grown in California. It was one of only two floats certified "California Grown" this year by California Food and Agriculture Secretary Karen Ross.
