President's Video Update for Nov. 19

President Ortiz gives his video message on November 19, 2012.

In his weekly video message, President Ortiz clarifies some of the outcomes from Proposition 30 and its impact on the CSU. The university is in the process of refunding the tuition fee increase that took effect this fall through account credits, refunds upon request or financial aid adjustments.

However, Proposition 30 does not provide additional funding to the CSU this year.

"What it did was help us avoid another $12 million cut to our budget and another increase in tuition fees. The long and the short of it was that the CSU gave up $132 million in increased tuition this year for $125 million in state funding for next year. With more stable funding, we were able to better plan and therefore slightly increase enrollment."

President Ortiz also shares some highlights from this past month: a visit by representatives from the Legislative Analysts’ Office, a Chinese delegation learning about our animal health science program, and meetings of the Comprehensive Campaign Steering Committee and National Development Council.

Ortiz also extends his congratulations to cross country athletes Tiffany Dinh and Ryan Carrell who competed in the NCAA Division II National Championships this weekend.
