Police Search for Armed Robbery Suspect
[Updated Oct. 26, 5:05 p.m.] Police have released a sketch of the suspect involved in an armed robbery Thursday night at Alamitos Residence Hall.
The suspect is described as a black man in his mid-20s, 6-feet-2-inches tall, medium build, with short hair, and an unshaven face. He was wearing a dark hoody and dark jeans, and smelled of cigarette smoke. He may be armed with a handgun.
Anyone with information about the suspect should call University Police immediately at (909) 869-3070. Do NOT approach or attempt to apprehend the suspect.
[Updated Oct. 26, 4:54 p.m.] University Police are investigating an armed robbery at Alamitos Residence Hall. The incident was reported at about 9:45 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25.
The intruder entered the student's room, which is on the first floor of the three-story building. He brandished a gun, closed the door behind him and tied the student. The suspect put the personal property of the student and his two roommates in a duffel bag and fled.
The student managed to extricate himself after a short time and notified the resident advisor, who called campus police. Officers showed up literally moments later. The sheriff’s department assisted in the initial investigation and helped establish a perimeter.

Police are working with an artist to produce a sketch of the suspect. It will be disseminated widely on campus and posted on the university's news website once it has been completed.
Residence halls are locked 24/7, and residents must use a key to enter. Police believe the robber followed a resident into the building. There was no evidence of forced entry.
Police are investigating the possibility this armed robbery may be related to a separate robbery report on Sunday evening.

Public safety officials have swept Alamitos Hall and surrounding areas, as well as increased patrols. A safety campaign has been launched at all residence halls and suites, reminding students to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious behavior to authorities. - Use a buddy system for walking campus or keeping watch for neighbors
