Clothes Closet Receives Record Donation

Jessica Moon, a psychology student, looks through the clothes at the Career Center Clothes Closet on April 17, 2012.

Last year the Career Center started the Clothes Closet to help students dress for success. Thanks to a large donation from the Hilton Hotels, the center will be able to cater to a much larger crowd.

The Hilton donation, which includes suits, blazers, dresses, slacks, and shoes, is the largest the Career Center has ever received.

“We now have 10 large racks full of clothing,” says Tom Munnerlyn, director of the Career Center. “It has really taken off.”

The Hilton corporate office in McLean, Va., heard about the Career Center’s Clothes Closet through their contacts in The Collins College of Hospitality Management. The company designated a week in September as a time for employees to bring in new or gently used professional attire. The response was more than they’d hoped for.

“We ended up with 18 or 19 boxes full of clothes,” says Sean Strachan, campus relations specialist for Hilton Hotels.

The extra resources will help the Career Center reach out to students in new ways.

“We want to do professional attire seminars and maybe hold a fashion show,” Munnerlyn says. “We want to step it up.”

The Clothes Closet is open to students from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Career Center. For more information, contact the Career Center at (909) 869-2342 or visit http://dsa.csupomona.edu/career.
