provostsaward2011.jpgIn celebration of their contributions to the academy, the 2011 Provost¿s Awards for Excellence honorees will make special presentations on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Kellogg West. The university community is invited to attend all or part of this scholarly event, which runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and includes lunch.

¿This is a marvelous way to begin the academic year and acknowledge the important contributions of our faculty,¿ says Provost Marten denBoer. ¿It¿s a great opportunity to enrich our academic dialog, benefit from the wisdom of our colleagues who have just been recognized, and honor their contributions to the university. I urge faculty to participate.¿

Dr. Tina Hartney (biological sciences) in teaching, Dr. Barbara Burke (chemistry) in service, and Dr. Elise Wirtschafter (history) in scholarly and creative activity were recognized for their contributions to the university and academia in June.

Howard Charney, senior vice president with Cisco In addition to the faculty presentations, the program will include a keynote speech from Howard Charney, senior vice president with Cisco and one of the more dynamic voices on the impact of technology on today¿s students. Charney is one of Silicon Valley¿s most sought-after speakers, addressing the Internet¿s impact on the way people work, live, play and learn.

A limited number of seats are available for the event. Online registration is now open.
