A congressman has recognized three agriculture students for their work in teaching urban farming to families in San Bernardino County.
Emily Creegan, Lucio Zepeda and Tony Deveyra taught basic farming principles, hydroponics, plant nutrition and irrigation to 16 residents who live in properties managed by the Housing Authority of San Bernardino County. The goal is to provide residents with fresh and nutritious foods, teach them a marketable skill, and help them sell produce at local farmers’ markets.
The students also established farming operations on those properties. The authority provides affordable housing to low-income families.
Rep. Gary Miller, R-Rancho Cucamonga, presented the students with a certificate of congressional recognition.
